In general, Vietnam is still a largely agricultural nation with as much as 80 percent of the population living in rural areas and over two-thirds of them depending on farming for a living. Since the introduction of 'doi moi' (renovation) in 1986, and particullarly during the last decade, rural areas have experienced positive changes.
