Abstract: |
The main objectives of this study are (1) to study educational concepts within the digital era and how digital technology is adopted by undergraduate schools in the 3 southern border provinces; (2) to study the role and importance of educational digital technology in undergraduate schools in the 3 southern border provinces for development purpose; (3) to study provide recommendations on developing appropriate educational policies and learning development in the digital era by the undergraduate schools in the 3 southern border provinces. The research method used are qualitative research namely desk research and in-depth interviews conducted with a total of 28 stakeholders within the educational system including instructors, educational administrative staffs, and students.
The study reveals that (1) the educational concepts within the digital era and how digital technology is adopted by undergraduate schools in the 3 southern border provinces comprise of the followings: 1.1) the educational concepts within the digital era are learning in the 21st century, learning in the digital era, and Constructivist theory; 1.2) the digital adoption by undergraduate schools is continuously developed in accordance with the modern changes and are consisted of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI), Web Based Instruction (WBI), E-learning, and Massive Open Online Courses (Mooc). (2) the role and importance of educational digital technology in undergraduate schools in the 3 southern border provinces are taking 4 major roles which are widening educational opportunity or reducing educational opportunity gap, used as a tool for the quality of education, assisted in educational management, and benefited various other educational activities. (3) the recommendations on developing appropriate educational policies and learning development for undergraduate schools in the 3 southern border provinces that is responsive to the entrance to the digital era are the followings: 3.1) Various components required for developments are the development of learning that aligns with the digital era, provide learning that equip students with the required skills and encourage adaptability in the digital era, and having the fundamental structures that’s necessary in the digital era. 3.2) The required preparation for the entrance to learning in the digital era by undergraduate schools in the 3 southern border provinces are: preparation of related human resources, adaptation of the curriculums and management methods, preparation of the required tools or other related infrastructure, for instance sufficient funding for developments.
