Abstract: |
The objectives of this research were to analyze the structural designs, contributing factors, learning data, and overall benefits of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for Generation Y people in Bangkok. This survey research was based on both quantitative and qualitative data. The sample consisted of 355 people employed in Bangkok and born between 1981 and 1999. They participated in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from service providers in Thailand and completed a survey about their experience. The measures used to analyze the data were percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis. After that, the information was collected through interviews. This study was selected from 12 purposive sampling respondents. Data were analyzed through content analysis and inductive analysis.
The research findings were as follows. First, most of the sampled groups had a specialized learning style for reading and writing. They frequently used computers to learn Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from home. Most of them enrolled in a free course and took approximately 15-30 minutes sessions. Next, factors of learning design features had a statistically significant effect on the effectiveness of learning through MOOCs at a level of 0.01. It related to interviewing results found that millennials in Bangkok are prioritizing a learning design factor. These factors can facilitate learning, create motivation for learning, support learning discipline and comprehension of the lesson. These findings were consistent with purposive sampling, interviews, which found that millennials in Bangkok considered factors of self-directed learning, creating a learning environment, design learning content, learning management systems, and technology systems. In addition, opinion level on the effectiveness of learning through MOOCs of millennials in Bangkok was very positive. The results were consistent with interviews which indicated that learning through MOOCs helped people access information, conveniently improved skills, saved money, and greatly expanded users' knowledge and vision. Finally, it argued that MOOCs were appropriate for learners in the digital era. |
