Abstract: |
This research aims to study the influence of social media on the behavioral deviation of children and youth in Bangkok area. The research objectives were to study the influence of social media on the behavioral deviation of children and youth, and to study the influence of social media on the behavior of children and adolescents.
In this study, questionnaires were used to collect data from the populationSamples were children and youth studying in secondary schools in Bangkok.The number of students from schools were selected randomly using multistate sampling, simple random sampling, and convenience sampling.Statistics used in the study were descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean and standard deviation, and inferential statistics such as correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis, dummy analysis, and logistic regression analysis.
Analysis reveals that the strongest influencing factors were the duration of gravity to commit the offence, social media usage, external force, and the frequency of using social media, respectively Moreover, it was found that the gravity to commit the offence, the duration of using socialmedia, and the frequency of social media usage, had positive relationship with the behavioral deviation. In other words, when children and youth frequently used social media and used it for a long time, it would create the gravity to commit the offence.Hence, resulted in a high chance of behavioral deviation. The study also found that external impediments had a negative direction with behavioral deviation.If children and youth had low external impedance, there was a greater chance of deviation.
In addition, an analysis found the relationship between social media use and deviant behaviorThe social media includes Facebook Line and YouTube. When using in the same level, Facebook users were 0.32 times more likely to have behavioral deviation than YouTube.
This study found that the frequency of online social media use influences behavioral deviation and drinking. The duration of social media use influenced behavior, diversion, learning, drinking, and smokingThe type of social media use influenced the behavior of diarrhea, alcohol consumption, and premature sexual intercourse. Gravity to commit the offense influenced behavioral deviation, classroom skipping, drinking and smokingThe impulsive to commit the offence influenced behavioral deviation, classroom skipping.The external impediment influenced behavioral deviation in the negative directionWhen children and youth had low external impediments, there was a greater chance of deviation.It could be said that external impediments had an influence on the in hibition of behavioral deviation
The results of this research derive some suggestions for correcting or preventing the deviation of children and youthThe key to inhibiting behavioral deviation was obtained from the external impediments, including love, warmth from family, friends, the ethics of oneself, and the action which was in accordance with the rules and regulations in society care should be generally practiced for all family membersThe media and ads should be regulated by the government organization through online media to keep up with the eventsThe role of mass media should be to create good media.The role of NGOs should encourage children and youth to use creative media.Finally, The role of an internet hosting provider should pay attention to the content available to children and youth. |
